About Skip Rowland

not just a guy with a camera

Skip RowlandI am a fulltime freelance photojournalist, regularly shooting for a number of publications (the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the W&M Alumni Magazine, among others). I cover athletics for Randolph-Macon College and Virginia Commonwealth University, as well as provide photography services to small businesses, large corporations, private foundations, and a number of area colleges and universities. (And, even though I don’t bill myself as a “wedding photographer,” I do shoot weddings and portraits!)

It all started in high school when my best friend let me take some shots at a football game. That was all it took to hook me for life; I have been taking photos one way or another ever since. In the past few years, I have earned numerous awards and distinctions, including the Virginia Press Association’s 2006 Best in Show for Non-Daily Publications.

Born in Richmond, raised in Southside Virginia, educated at William & Mary, I now reside in Hanover County with my wife Nina, our two children, and our rescued dogs and cats.
